Jalmolonga is a rural community in the state of Mexico near the town of Malinalco. During the pandemic the children in this rural community had little access to education but through the community centre they received support with their education. Humanitree has a long standing history with this community dating back to 2017 following the large earthquake where we donated shelter, bedding, clothing and food in their hour of need. The community centre has a catch up programme for the kids now they are back to school again and once again we are supporting them. This time donating iPads with a focus on mathematics using donated subscriptions of MangaHigh. Hive 3 jumped in to help children in the community by showing them how to use iPads and how MangaHigh works. At Humanitree we have used MangaHigh for many years to support our mathematics programme.

We would like to thank MangaHigh for their kind support of this project!

Before the trip I felt a tad nervous about there being so many people there that I did not know. I was looking forward to possibly making some new friends or at least acquaintances, so it felt like a mixing pot between nervousness and happiness. I was also looking forward to helping out people who are less fortunate, than myself.

Our Social Action trip to Centro Comunitario began with a discussion, in preparation for the arrival of the children. When the children started arriving, we first shared a meal and began to socialise with the students. The whole purpose of the trip was to teach them how to use an iPad, which they could then have access to whenever they came to the Centro Comunitario. We were also tasked with showing the students how to use a special app called Mangahigh which helps children of all ages and ability levels with their math.

In the end the children were so happy after learning how to use the IPad and that they could learn more things than ever. My assigned friend was called Jesus. He loves math and was super excited when I taught him how to use the website and when other children were busy playing, Jesus continued to enjoy using the iPad.

Then we sadly had to say our goodbyes, and went back to Mexico City with a smile on our face.

This trip was a true learning experience. This impacted me in many ways. When I got there and I looked around I felt really lucky. I could see a small building and a playground and I could tell that the children were not as lucky as me but had the best smiles and were running around with glee. When they gave me an iPad and I started teaching a little girl, I could see how at first she was nervous. But as time went on she became more confident and secure. I felt grateful and thrilled for them. When we left I could see they were so cheery and that made me feel joyful. After leaving, I learned that happiness is the key to life and seeing the world from another person's perspective can really impact you and your life.

On Monday the 3rd of October, we went to a Centro Comunitario Jalmolonga, to donate 20 iPads with MangaHigh on them. The purpose of the trip was to teach the kids that attend the Centro Comunitario how to use the iPads so that they can also use the Mangahigh to assist with their education.
